Lara and I also spotted quite a number of warblers over the weekend at
various parks in the area: pine, tennessee, bay breasted, chestnut sided,
amer. redstart, yellow rumped, nashville, black throated green. What made
the observations noteworthy though was the fact that the overwhelming
majority ( like > 95% ) of them were hatch year birds. Maybe all the adults
are already ahead of them. Has anyone witnessed any appreciable number of
migrating high arctic nesting shorebirds to see the adult/juvenile number?
This is in reference to an earlier posting to the effect that these birds
had experienced a catastrophic nesting season. We went to Glimore Ponds to
check on the shorebird habitat out there and, unfortunately it is nil as
there's 6 ft. tall vegetation in the big pond area. We went by the Oxbow
today and there's a tremendous amount of water in it due to the huge
rainfall upstream in the Ohio. Maybe when that recedes there'll be some
good habitat there. Eric.
