Dear students,
Hope that everyone is having a great summer. I am writing to all of you
because I am very much committed to getting an active school psychology
student group off the ground this fall. Last fall, several of you were
awesome in your efforts to get such a group going, but then things sort of
fizzled when I got sick and wasn't able to devote much time and energy to
this group. I am now back to 100% and want to make another run at getting
this group going. In my graduate program, we had a thriving student group
and this significantly added to my graduate experience and this is my hope
for your group. While ultimately my hope is that this group will be
primarily student-led and student-run, I'd like to give this process a kick
start by suggesting the following:
1) meeting during the first week of classes to brainstorm ideas/activities
for the group
2) meeting again during the second week to elect officers and assign
specific tasks
3) continuing contact via email or meetings through the semester, at a
schedule that students feel is most appropriate.
Possible activities for this group include but are not limited to: student
socials, outreach to different groups on and off campus, volunteer
activities, advocacy activities, etc.
What would be very helpful to me right now is to get a sense of how many
students think that the formation of such a group is a good idea and, if
so, who might be interested in being involved in this group, even at a
minimal level. Please respond to me directly (i.e., not through this
listserv) to let me know your thoughts on such a group and we'll go from there.
Hope the end of the counseling class is going well for the '04 group (not
sure what to call you now. 1.5 years? Almost second years?) and that the
'03 group is getting fired up to start internship soon!
--Dave
