Work Schedule: Part time
Not-to-exceed 48 hours per pay period
DUTY LOCATION: Washington, DC
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: All candidates may apply including disabled

DUTIES: Incumbent performs para-professional and technical archives work as
a member of the Collections Processing
Unit of the Archives of American Art (AAA). He/she will be responsible for
work conducting detailed physical condition
surveys of archives and manuscript collections, according to an established
work plan and methodology in support of a
special grant project. Physically examines, assesses, analyzes, and rates
the physical condition and archival housing of
assigned collections, and completes the necessary information on survey
forms. The incumbent will handle fragile
historical materials, identify archival primary source materials, original
artwork, and original photographs, and assess the
archival quality of collections housing materials.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience
equivalent to the next lower grade level.
Specialized experience is defined as experience which has equipped the
applicant with the particular knowledge, skills
and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and which
is typically in or related to the work of the
position as described above.

accrediting institution recognized by the Department of Education. Any

In addition to the qualifications described above, applicants will be
further evaluated by Selective and Quality
Ranking Factors. Applicants are strongly encouraged to specifically address

Selective Factors: (Applicants must meet all of these mandatory
requirements in order to be considered qualified to

1. Knowledge of archival standards and methodology.
2. Knowledge of American cultural history.

Quality Ranking Factors: (These factors are not mandatory to be considered
for a position, but will be used to
determine who are the highest qualified candidates among those who meet the
selective factors.)
1. Knowledge of archival survey and assessment methodologies
2. Ability to recognize and assess primary source documentation
3. Ability to assess the physical condition and preservation needs of
primary source materials
4. Skill in using automated systems for a variety of functions, i.e.
word-processing, digital imaging, database entry,
Internet research, etc.
