I've found that unregistering these dlls fixes the "api" error issues I've seen:

We saw a similar message when the student had a Beta version of IE
installed. You might want to check that out.
Here's a note from our housing Technician: We have had a couple of
people come in with computers that are getting an API error after they
put in their username and password in Clean Access. The two that I have
seen have had IE 7 Beta 2 on them. Uninstalling IE 7 beta 2 worked on
fixing the problem.

Good Day,
With the end of the semester on the horizon, I'm not going to worry too
much about this but am wondering if anyone else has seen it.
With fresh install of agent ver 3.5.13 login fails with the windows
error
message
"Error ocurred while calling the last API function. Below is the error
information.
Error #87
Error Description the parameter is invalid"
