DD: I hear the first way as meaning individually, i.e. "...each one of them."
"They all," I hear as a collective, i.e. "As a
group they should get together and contribute."
It is awkward, as 'they' is plural and the 'each,
as a pronoun', is singular, but the verb is
plural. "Each needs..." sounds and is correct, it
is the mix that complicates things, but it is
used as is your example quite often by High
Standard English speakers, though not in thought
out writing. Be interesting to see what the others in this group think.
