I did not get a very early start this morning, but there were still a few birds about when I arrived at
Englewood at 10:30 am. The lake at East Park was mostly thawed. Ring-billed gulls were the
most abundant species, followed by Canada goose. Other water birds included red-breasted
mergansers, hooded mergansers, mallard, great blue heron, coots, and lesser scaup.
The park also yielded the following before noon:
turkey vulture
cardinal
sandhill cranes
hairy woodpecker
downy woodpecker
red-bellied woodpecker
carolina chickadee
white-breasted nuthatch
american crow
american robin
song sparrow
red-tailed hawk
eastern phoebe
tufted titmouse
dark-eyed junco
eastern bluebird
