Global Village:
Every year, the student organizations and individuals of miami University come together to put on Global Village and bring the world to Oxford, Ohio. Different groups host tables sharing their area of interest with the public. In the past, Global Village has been centered on countries. However, this year we would really like to expand and include "issue tables" such as AIDS, subnational groups, and the sex trade. Global village will take place on April 20th from 1-4 PM (12-5 PM including set up and clean up) at Uptown Park. The rain location will be Lower Alexander. If you or your organization is interested in hosting a table, please contact Lauren Czajka at [log in to unmask] with your name and table idea.

ALAS Potluck Dinner: 19 April (the time/location are still being worked out but keep your eye open for this!!) contact Eddie at [log in to unmask] if you have any ideas or questions.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED, see below and information attached
Hi everyone!

There is a great event coming up on March 31st! The Greater Cincinnati area will be hosting a Cesar Chavez Celebration at the Freedom Center in downtown Cincinnati. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

We could use YOUR help! We need volunteers to help out with the event. Transportation will be provided as needed to the Freedom Center. Those leaving from Oxford should expect to leave around 4pm to get to the Freedom Center at 5pm. The event itself begins at 6pm and should last about 2 hours or so depending on speakers, etc.

Volunteers will be assigned as needed to:
- welcome people and guide them to the location where the Vigil will take place -Harriet
Tubman Theater (50 East Freedom Way). We will need some volunteers around the lobby/reception
  area of the Freedom Center
- give people information regarding parking facilities
- distribute the flyers/program of the Vigil
- give people information about the reception

This will be a great opportunity for them to meet/interact with students from other universities, people from different organizations, the Latino community and in general an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of a well-known Latino civil and human rights activist.

If you would like to volunteer or need more information, please contact Megan Taylor Kuykendoll at [log in to unmask] or 513-529-8373.

GOSPEL CHOIR, see below
The Harlem Gospel Choir at Miami University (FREE CONCERT)
Performance at Millet Hall
Wednesday, March 26, 2008 (Wed. following spring break)
Showtime at 7:30 pm.
12 artists, 10 vocalists a percussionist and a keyboardist

The Harlem Gospel choir is known as the most famous gospel choir in America and as one of the pre-eminent gospel choirs in the world. Founded in 1986 by Allen Bailey, the inspiration for the Choir came during a celebration in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the renowned Cotton Club in Harlem. These inspirations lead to the acclimation of some of the finest singers and musicians from Harlem's Black Churches and from the New York/tri-state area.

The Choir's main message and theme for every performance is to "bring people and nations together and give something back." The choir tries to promote this message as well as that of love, peace, and harmony through every performance while at the same time creating a better understanding of the African-American culture and the music called Gospel.

Recently, the Gospel Choir has raised $33,000 for Feed the Children from the sale of their "God Bless the Children" wristbands. They also appeared on Good Morning America's Coat Drive which helped collect over 155,000 coats for the homeless. The Angels in Harlem, coined by Nelson Mandela, Pope John Paul II, and even U2 took part in helping victims of aids in Africa, victims of Hurricane Katrina, and has toured all over the world to promote Martin Luther King's message.
