Subject: DeWitt birds

I took the dog on a walk to the Dewitt log cabin are a this morning. The most exciting thing was that for a second time I saw a male common yellowthroat in the prairie grasses that were planted a few years ago near the log homestead. A few days ago I spotted him but he wasn't singing. Today he was singing and acting territorial. Hopefully there's a nest and it won't be disturbed by the many dogs that exercise in the area. Congratulations to the folks who made the effort to plant the prairie grass! There have also recently been a lot of swallow families at DeWitt, including barn, northern rough-winged and bank.

Also of note, on the way back I found a singing yellow-throated warbler in one of the trees near the carillon tower in front of Peabody Hall.

Good birding, Jim Michael
