It was very different today compared with yesterday. the lake migration was
much better than the songbird and hawk migration. the best birds of the
day- adult RED-THROATED LOON, RED-NECKED GREBE, NORTHERN GOSHAWK, lesser
black-backed gull, and Merlin were all observed while watching the lake.
The best warbler of the day, a KENTUCKY WARBLER was even observed coming
inland off the lake. It was fly west along the shore and then headed into
the trees along the beach. I also had a brown thrasher fly south off the
lake. The red-throated loon was in breeding plumage, the red-necked grebe
was in winter plumage. The Northern Goshawk was an adult the was flying
just offshore in a westerly direction. There were great numbers of Caspian
and Forster's terns today.
There were a lot fewer warblers and other songbirds today. New for today
were common yellowthroat, gray catbird, and Swainson's thrush. I started
watching for hawks around 10:30 and quit around 11:30. I had a few sharpies
and two broadwings and a few vultures. I actually had more birds over the
lake.
