HACU National Internship Program (HNIP)

Applications are still being accepted for Fall 2009 placements for students with the following academic majors:

Accounting, Agriculture, Finance, Geography, Life Science, Business, Engineering (all), and Computer Science-and all related majors, Statistics, Math, Public Health, Communication, Social Work, Law, and Public Administration.

Best Shot Foundation

Would you like to save the lives of children in developing countries? Do you want valuable, real-world experience in managing an event from start to finish? Regional Tournament Organizers will receive hands-on experience in event planning, marketing, fundraising, and advocacy. His/her primary role will be to organize a local dodgeball tournament and support participating teams as they raise funds for the fight against childhood pneumonia.

Successful candidates will be highly motivated, enthusiastic, and reliable, with a passion for humanitarian causes. The Regional Tournament Organizer position will provide significant and practical experience for those planning to enter the not-for-profit, marketing or event-planning fields after college graduation. Tournament Organizers will receive a stipend of up to $1,000, plus the chance to travel to Las Vegas a part of the national tournament.

Minorities Striving and Pursuing Higher Degrees of Success in Earth System Science (MS PHD'S)

Each year, the initiative engages 30 minority undergraduate and graduate students in a series of activities beginning with orientation and a broad Earth system science and engineering exposure during MS PHD'Scommunity-building activities at the American Geophysical Union fall meeting in San Francisco, CA.

The final phase will occur at the National Academies in Washington, DC, where participants will visit government agencies and engage in dialogs with professional society and foundation representatives. Each student will also receive a scholarship award of up to $1,000 and participate in a tour of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD.

The deadline for submitting the online application is Sept. 8, 2009.

The National Latino Behavioral Health Association

The National Latino Behavioral Health Association's mission is to influence national behavioral health policy, eliminate disparities in funding and access to services, and improve the quality of services and treatment outcomes for Latino populations.  NLBHA was established to fill a need for a unified national voice for Latino populations in the behavioral health arena and to bring attention to the great disparities that exist in areas of access, utilization, practice based research and adequately trained personnel.

NLBHA has 2 internships available for year long, fall, spring or summer. Stipends are available depending on skill and experience level.

 *   Non-profit management- focuses on budgeting, grant writing, fund development, board development, capacity building and overall management.

 *   Marketing- focuses on communications including listserve, contact lists, database management, website development, promotional material development, newsletter and membership cultivation.

Americorp

Paid Americorp position plus educational benefits and health insurance! Workers will complete home visits to provide education about preventing lead poisoning in children and other home health hazards. Also, they will complete simple lead dust swipe testing to help families become aware of hazardous levels of lead dust in their homes. Related office support as needed.  No previous experience is required; training will be provided for all duties.

Must be willing to commit for a year from starting date and work at least 37 hours per week. Bilingual (Spanish and English) skills a plus, but not necessary!

The U.S. Hispanic Leadership Institute

The U.S. Hispanic Leadership Institute will be hosting the Southeast Latino Student Leadership Conference (SLSLC) in Orlando, Florida, on November 6-7, 2009.

We are looking for student leaders and advisors representing colleges and universities in the southeast region who would be interested in joining our planning committee (please see attachment for duties of planning committee members). Our planning committee meeting is scheduled to take place at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, from 3-5pm.

Mozilla Service Week

Idealist is partnering with Mozilla (the organization behind the Firefox browser) on their first annual Mozilla Service Week which will match thousands of "techie" volunteers around the world with nonprofits in need of help with IT, web design, programming, blogging, and more.
