Hello Everybody: I trust you all had a Happy Thanksgiving. I felt obliged to
write this message regarding wetland destruction in Ohio. I feel that
this subject would be acceptable to our readers regarding the loss of 90-95 % of
our original natural wetlands in Ohio. I have been observing a good example of
just how we have lost some of nature's most important wildlife habitat, flood
control, etc. Sometime when you are birding near the Funk Bottoms, take time
to observe the recent destruction of a wetland area on the north side of St. Rt.
95., directly across from state controlled land. Yes, it is private land. And I
would suppose there are those that would argue the property owner has the right
to do what he pleases with his land. Yes, I guess he does. But, until we care
enough, we will continue to lose that last 5% of our original wetlands in Ohio
to corn and soybean fields. As my wife wrote in her poem, "God's Good Earth",
"We've drained and filled and taken of His land for selfish use! How much more
damage can we do? How much more self-abuse?" Do we care enough??
