I have it easy: the overwhelming majority of my correspondents write emails
similar to Herb--speakers of standard educated English I have not
encountered the unusual 'in which' construction mentioned in lieu of 'that.'
I have read "to, for, and about whom" frequently. Most of my non-college
graduate correspondents seem to make an effort to write correct formal
English. It's easy to deduce that I am teaching neither College English nor
ESOL at the moment.
