With ponds and lakes finally freezing over, I figured it was time to check the Struthers to Lowellville section of the Mahoning R. for waterbirds. In Struthers, the river had Canada geese, mallards, a ring-necked duck, 5 hooded mergansers, and ring-billed gulls. Not bad for what used to be an industrial sewer. Craig Holt, Lowellville
