Fellow bird Counters,
After trying for Owls under far too windy conditions, we had to
settle for a 48 species day which smashed our previous record of 41. So,
settle might not be the best choice of words. It was a very good day.
Highlights included six woodpecker species (all in our yard!!!!) and a
Rough Legged Hawk, the first seen down here this winter. Also got three
gull species at Buckeye Lake and a pond full of Gadwalls just south east of
there. Even saw a few Killdeer.
Birded today with my neighbor, Vicki Derr. We walked about a mile on
our property and drove about 60-70 miles around Perry County. Waiting to
hear how others did on the first day and big county lists.
