Spent the day with five of my students and Ryan Steiner in the Wayne/Holmes wetlands. Thirty-five species for the day. Swarms of mallards and Canada geese at Funk. Two Bald eagles on the nest were a bonus along with a Northern harrier, handful of Tundra swans and about a dozen Ring-billed gulls. We struck out however, on the Northern shrike.
Birds of interest on Clark road were a Merlin, Barred owl and Brown creeper. On the return trip on Kidron road were two Rough-legged hawks. Great day of drizzly fun and tons of lifers for the kids.
