While doing bird banding here at Cleveland Metroparks Ohio & Erie Canal
Reservation our banders netted a female and juvenile American Woodcock.
Also 15 juvenile and 2 adult Gray Catbirds were banded.
A Northern Cardinal originally banded as an adult on July 5, 2003 was
recaptured, making him at least 10 years old! While not the oldest cardinal
on record (15 yrs, 9 mo), this is a pretty significant recapture. He was
captured in a net right next to a juvenile cardinal, so we suspect he is
still breeding. This may also indicate excellent site fidelity and the
ability to maintain a breeding territory at such an advanced age.
