New Ohio eBird Hot Spots
Ohio Route 2 Rest Stop (Eastbound) Nature Trail
Ohio Route 2 Rest Stop (Westbound) Nature Trail
You may not often think of birding a rest area, but I thought you might like
to know about the nature trails in the westbound and eastbound rest areas in
Lorain County on Ohio Route 2 at the Vermilion River, just south and a
little east of Vermilion. In June a birder suggested the eastbound rest stop
as a new hot spot in eBird. He wrote to me, “This particular rest stop is
unique as it has a paved nature walks (one on each side of the highway) that
go to river overlooks. The paths are visible from Google Maps
(41.403081,-82.335963) if you want to check them out. It's definitely a
good spot for viewing Bank Swallows.”
Other birders tell me that the westbound rest stop is also a good place to bird.
If you stop at this rest area going either direction on Route 2, be sure to
record a list of the birds you see and report them to eBird.
