stopped above the Greenlawn Dam in Columbus mid-day to see how the
semitropical enclave was doing. While great egret numbers have for many
weeks exceeded 15 (with as many as 90), only seven were present,
hunkered down--on dry land--behind shoreline vegetation; while we were
there, three of them bailed out and flew south. Cormorant numbers, which
had totaled more than a hundred for just as long, had dwindled to four.
