Capping off a nice day of birding with the Columbus Audubon Avid Birders
group, we saw a single Common Raven southwest of Mohican State Park on
College Hill Road at about 4:30 today. The bird was carrying what appeared
to be a dead rat and gave characteristic croaking calls as it flew off.
Also in the same general area were three Rough-legged Hawks, all light
morphs. At Mohican SP, the only birds of note were two female White-winged
Crossbills in a hemlock near the covered bridge. An unwanted sighting was
of a single bat which flew overhead, almost certainly a victim of
white-nose syndrome.
Good birding,
Andy Sewell
