Hi all,
Sorry for the late post- been busy this week. Anyway, I went to Killdeer Plains WA on Sunday. The switch over from early to later waterfowl has begun already. Many Redhead, Scaup, and ring-necked ducks, as well as several species of dabblers. Lots of American Wigeon present which means that this will be a good place to look for Eurasian Wigeon in the coming weeks. Highlights included:
CH-71 between 115 and 108:
Northern Shrike working the fence line right along the road.
Harold Roe wetland (on 108):
Tundra Swan: 120+ (a few Trumpeters as well)
Greater White-fronted Goose: 18
Pond 27:
Pectoral Sandpiper: 5
The water level in this pond is very low, especially in the middle section. Looks like really good shorebird habitat for now.
Also a note that there were 2 Black Vultures in a field just west of Lexington, OH this morning. I know this species is on the increase in the Mansfield area.
