On a phone tip from "Birdin'" Bonnie Fish of Burton, I reported the west end of LaDue Reservoir (Auburn Twp) to see a nice variety of ducks that included (rough count):
180 ring-necked ducks, 32 mallards, 8 American wigeon, 6 gadwall, 5 green-winged teal, 4 wood ducks, 3 pintail and 1 hooded merganser drake. To view the western most reach of LaDue, park at the small boat put-in on the south end of the Auburn Rd. causeway, carefully cross Auburn Rd overstepping the guardrail for viewing access on the west side of the road. There was 3 bufflehead drakes looking east from Auburn Rd.
Stopping along the Rt. 44 causeway, there was (again rough count in my hurry): about 28 scaup (appeared to be lesser), 14 redhead and 1 ring-necked duck; turkey vultures aloft.
FYI, there has been 3-4 shoveller drakes on the marsh at the SE corner of Pekin & Auburn Rd (Newbury Twp). this past week. Viewing of this area most safely done from Pekin.
