I was an unopened part of our future Lake Erie Bluffs Park in Painesville/Perry Townships along Lake Erie yesterday (4/10) with Paul and Susie Belanger. There were a lot of songbirds and gulls moving along the lake heading east. There were hundreds of blackbirds and robins. There was also a good flight of northern flickers, mourning doves and a other songbirds. The gull flight was made up of mainly immature herring with a small number of ring-billed gulls. Of note with the gulls was a third cycle NELSON'S GULL (Glaucous x herring hybrid). Also of note were a merlin, 3-4 American kestrels hunting the area, 2 pine warblers. in the wet woods a lot of the warblers and kinglets were feeding on the ground, giving some great looks. There were a lot of sapsuckers in the woods also. Unfortunately around 10:00 the wind switched to the north and shut the migration of completely. We just made it back to the cars as the heavy rain hit.
