This afternoon I shook off the unexpected Big Year burn out, doldrums and
lack of motivation that I have had this month, which seemed to hit me when
I finally slowed down and tried to settle into a more normal routine
instead of chasing all over North America for new birds as I did last fall
and winter.
I went to Deer Creek Dam at the raceway/outlet and enjoyed the male winter
plumaged Long-tailed Duck and the male White-winged Scoter, both at
relatively close range. They were so beautiful!
Also present were two Male Greater Scaup and a Common Merganser (female or
immature). There were also ten (10) Black Vultures roosting in the trees
below the bridge on the east side.
These birds were present between 4:45 to 5:30 pm.
