I had an unexpected block of free time this afternoon so I headed to Chestnut Ridge MetroPark even tho it was not an optimal time for birding.
I was treated to 3 Scarlet Tanagers, 2 males & 1 female sparkling in the afternoon sun. The males seemed more interested in catching insects or chasing each other than in the female.
Nothing too exciting but did get my FOS Purple Martins.
Warblers: Yellow, Hooded, Chestnut-sided, Palm, Com Y-T.
Indigo Buntings, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Wood Thrush, house wren, Carolina Wren, Red-eyed Vireo, Field Sparrow, White-throated Sp, Wood Duck, Broad-winged Hawk.
Lovely day.
