I live on the west side of Columbus and drive past the Heron/Cormorant rookery on McKinley Road daily. Today as I drove by, a gull flew over my car. I've never seen a gull there, so I stopped and checked out the island where the nests are. There were impressive numbers of Double-crested Cormorants and a few Great Egrets, but what really surprised me was a Herring Gull sitting on a nest! It's not something I'd expect on such a small body of water, but four other Herring Gulls were flying around the quarry, so there may be other nests.
