A few days ago, I was watching the birds in my backyard when I found a particularly unusual one. I thought it was one of the following:
-White-throated Sparrow (Tan-striped Morph)
-White-crowned Sparrow (Adult)
-White-crowned Sparrow (Juvenile)
Let's start with the bird's details:
-Buff stripes on crown and eyes
-Buff back
-Gray breast spot
-Blackish, sparrowlike bill
-Gray throat
-Crown/Eyestripes bordered by black
Now let's see the behaviors:
-Crawling up tree trunks like a woodpecker or a nuthatch
-Loosely associating with the White-crowns
If you have any suggestions, email me (or the listserv)
