Hello, Friends,

As many of you know, I am the humble custodian of the copyright to the works of Dr. Francis Christensen, including The Christensen Rhetoric Program. Next year is the 50th anniversary of the publication of that program, and I would love to celebrate by gathering scholars who studied under Christensen, or have ever taught with his program, or who would just like to find out more about it. But I need your help.

First, we would need to find the right venue for such a celebration. While I thought of arranging an event myself, it occurred to me that there might be an upcoming conference where one or more presentations could be arranged, either as part of the program or as a supplement for those interested. Do any conferences come to mind? ATEG itself, and NCTE, but there must be others that would welcome such a tribute.

The other challenge, of course, is to locate and connect with those people. How about you? Your friends or colleagues? Are you on social media so that you could reach out to discover some names? That could really be huge.

I just think it would be great to share stories about Christensen himself and about our experiences teaching his remarkable method. I have been teaching it for 48 of those 50 years, and I know its power. Unfortunately, the program has taken a back seat to other approaches, but I believe it is time to re-evalate its place in the high school and college curriculum. Please help me make this happen.
