Our team patrolling the tundra between Dublin & Marysville for the
O'Shaughnessy CBC had slim pickings, but did blunder into a big flock of
Horned larks around a grain spill along the shoulder of Beecher-Gamble Rd
just east of Industrial Parkway. At 10 am, we counted 220+ Larks, plus a
few Snow Buntings and Lapland Longspurs amongst them. We returned around 4
PM in the afternoon, and there were still 150+ larks present, plus 9
longspurs and 2-3 buntings. The spot should remain good for them until the
grain runs out, probably in a few days.
Nearby, around the public access along Bug Darby Creek at the US 42 bridge,
we had a Swamp Sparrow along the creek and a Fox Sparrow along Lambka Rd
just east of the bridge, among many Song Sparrows and Juncos. Elsewhere in
the area, frozen water and deep snows made for meager birding.
