I’m glad I got good views of the N Shrike this AM at CVNP b/c I dipped on 2 Snowies I chased & also came up empty on the Short-eareds being reported near Dolan.
I believe the Snowy reported near Apple Valley was there today but not visible from the road. A group of Amish were looking at something intently thru scopes & binos on private property but did not invite any one onto their property (which, of course, is fine & more than understandable).
I then went to the farm in Holmes Cty where the owner is still welcoming birders. That Snowy had been seen yesterday but the owner told another birder that it had not been seen today.
I did see a beautiful Rough-legged Hawk in addition to a lovely male N Harrier & a kestrel there.
I counted 10 cars at the Dolan site. I stayed about an 1.5 hrs but left around 4:30 with no owl sightings. Saw another Rough-legged there plus a kestrel with a prey item.
Beautiful day to be out anyway. Forgot to mention an adult Bald Eagle flew over as we were looking for the N Shrike at CVNP.
