I just returned from a trip to Cape May NJ and of course went birding at the bio reserve this morning. Very chilly but I found a few nice birds. I did well with sparrows with the expected Song and White-throateds but also a couple Lincolns and a few Swamps. There were towhees around but I did not hear any catbirds.
I also had a close Yellow-bellied Sapsucker and briefly saw a Winter Wren. As far as warblers, I had a very bright Nashville warbler which was a cheerful sight to see. And I saw a single Yellow-rumped which was pretty funny given that I’d just seen thousands of them in Cape May.
Afterwards I stopped by Alum Creek Beach hoping the Laughing Gull might still be there but I did not see it, just many Ring-billeds and a few Herring Gulls. No Franklin’s either but I was there late morning.
An adult Bald Eagle flew over with a very large fish dangling from one talon.
