Yesterday Monday 25 I took a look at OSU Airport livestock fields on Case Rd just east of Sawmill Rd.
There was more than one Red tail and a Rough-legged hawk. It was being harassed in the air by the Red tail. Trying to get away It finally dove very low to the ground and flew quite a distance landing on a fence post. Then the Red tail perched on a pole some distance away. After a few minutes it flew directly to the other hawks post spreading it’s wings and fanning it’s tail very wide landing on the same post. The Rough leg didn’t lose its hold on the post it just tipped off looking up at the Red tail over it.
Finally the Rough leg let go and flew off. I didn’t see them together again. The Rough leg didn’t stay in any one spot long. Constantly moving. It hovered nicely for a little while.
I had never seen that much action from a Rough legged before. Only wish I could have got a video of it.
