Peter Shedd ([log in to unmask]) forwarded the following message
to me. I think that it is most interesting and may be something that
we in the ALSB would want to emulate at some point. I forward it
along to all of you on the ALSBTALK net just for your information and
comments.

----------------------------Original message----------------------------
I've seen and received a number of requests lately for course
syllabi. We maintain an electronic archive of management-related
course syllabi on the Management Archive, and I invite you to
contribute yours. These syllabi (and the rest of the Archive) are
open and available to free access by any Internet user.

Since summer is almost here many of us will be revising our courses
for the next academic year. This seems like a great time for a
syllabus exchange. Personally I find it very helpful to peruse
others' syllabi from time to time to get new ideas, identify new
textbooks or literature, and keep up with the latest thinking and
writing in areas in which I'm not currently working. Lately, there
have been a number of interesting discussions on teaching and course
design on the Academy networks, and trading syllabi would be a great
way to complement these discussions. By far the most efficient way
to do this trading is through the Management Archive!

You can contribute your course syllabi to the Management Archive in
one of the following ways:

  1. If you have direct Internet access from your personal
computer, workstation or mainframe, connect by anonymous FTP
to chimera.sph.umn.edu (use your e-mail address as
password). Change to the pub/incoming directory, and use
the FTP "put" command to upload your document. If you have
trouble with this procedure, get help from a knowledgeable

     colleague or your system administrator.

  2. Alternatively, you may send your paper via Internet or
     BITNET e-mail to:

                     [log in to unmask]

Ideally, papers should be submitted in either simple text (ASCII),
TEX, or encapsulated postscript (EPS) format. Text files should be
formatted and single-spaced (i.e. normal text, including centering
and indents is preferred). We accept but discourage documents in
proprietary formats (e.g. WordPerfect, Microsoft Word, or other word
processor format) since this limits the accessibility of your
material to other network users. ASCII files are readily accessible
to all users but cannot include embedded graphics (because of
Internet/BITNET mail restrictions). TEX or encapsulated Postscript
files, however, will retain any graphics embedded in your document.
Contact your local computer consultant for help in generating and
uploading a TEX or postscript document, or in converting a TEX or
postscript document that you have downloaded.

Syllabi should include your name, affiliation, and e-mail address.
There is no limit on length. If you FTP the file, send an
accompanying e-mail message (to [log in to unmask]) to let us
know about it.

                  Using the Management Archive

To access the Management Archive, point your gopher program to
chimera.sph.umn.edu. If you are totally unfamiliar with the Archive
and would like more information, send the following command to
[log in to unmask]:

 get gopher ma-info

You will receive complete details on the Archive by return e-mail.

We welcome your submissions to the Archive! If you have any
questions, feel free to contact me ([log in to unmask]).
