Instead of typing just plain telnet, try this:
$ telnet /break_character=^q site.site.edu
Where ^q would replace the ^^ that was the default. Note that the ^ means
"Control" (^^ means Control-^, then). You'll still need to remember to type
the X after the ^q, however.
It appears that this "extended" telnet that Multinet provides is a little
different than the rest of the net.world. I suppose that's the trade-off with
UCX.
