Tom the issue really is whether affirmative action is invidious
discrimination. The Proposed Human rights Statement was modified to add
the word invidious before discrimination.

invidious - such as to excite ill will; giving offense, as by
discriminating unfairly -

My concern is that when any statement tries to specifically include all
possible examples it invites sharp shooting in the form of, What about _____?
or Did you forget ________?

The statement itself uses the words "all persons in all aspects of life"
so why do we need to back off from this ALL encompassing statement and
enumerate specific groups. ON ANY GROUNDS means just what it says. It is
meant to be absolute. The only debate is whether the discrimination or
segregation is INVIDIOUS.

Simply stated if discrimination or segregation is invidious we of the
Academy are against it.
