I am always far more concerned about my own spelling. For example - in
a recent draft of an Ethics Tribunal report, I was tormented by my fellow
panelists for getting "bare" and "bear" mixed up. I was delighted though
recently when a friend who teaches on a literacy program gave me the tip
"one collar, two sleeves" (one c, two ses), I thought for sucessful. I then
noticed that
all my many children's teachers spelt the word wrong. Now I think back -
maybe he was using this tip for necessary. The world is a very confusing
place. The most extraordinary thing is that my kids all seem to be able
to spell, which shows that this is neither nurture nor genes. I have
great hope for future generations.
