                   CALL FOR PAPERS & PROPOSALS
 
          International Human Resource Management Conference
                    San Diego, California, USA
                         24-28 June, 1996
 
 
The 5th Conference on International Human Resource Management (IHRM) will
be held 24-28 June, 1996, at the Hyatt Islandia Hotel and Resort in San
Diego, California. Previous conferences were held in Singapore (1987),
Hong Kong (1989), England (1992) and Australia (1994). The conference
theme will be:
 
             "Practitioner and Academic Views of IHRM:
           Defining the Differences and Closing the Gaps"
 
 
CONFERENCE FORMAT:
 
        The conference will provide a blend of practitioner keynote
addresses, academic research presentations, symposia and poster sessions,
and practitioner discussions of case applications and "reports from the
field." The conference is designed to facilitate extensive opportunities
for interaction among practitioners and researchers in formal and
informal settings. The conference includes several receptions, on- and
off-site luncheons and dinners, and a variety of social events.
 
 
CALL FOR PAPERS & EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
 
        Authors are invited to submit papers, poster sessions, symposium
proposals, or other innovative presentation or discussion formats on any
topic related to international HRM. Appropriate topics include, but are
not limited to, the following:
 
        Strategic Human Resource Management
        Expatriate Selection, Training, Compensation and Repatriation
        Multinational HRM Systems and Practices
        Organizational Re-engineering and IHRM
        "Best Practices" in International Human Resource Management
        Cross-National Comparative Studies of HRM
        Organizational Learning and HRM
        Worker Health and Safety Challenges and Practices
        HRM Issues & Practices in Multinational & Multicultural Teams
        Innovations & Strategic HRM Challenges in High Technology and
                Entrepreneurial Firms
        Comparative HRM Practices/Cooperative Industrial Relations
        HRM and Implementation of Team-Based Structures
 
Case analyses of individual organizations' efforts to address IHRM issues
such as the above are encouraged, in addition to conceptual and empirical
studies of these and related topics.
 
        Consistent with the conference theme and objectives, submissions
from practitioners and non-North American authors are particularly
encouraged.
 
 
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
 
        Papers should be no longer than 10 single-spaced pages, excluding
references. Poster sessions and symposium proposals should be no longer
than 3 single-spaced pages, excluding references.
 
        Conference proceedings will be provided on computer diskettes, so
papers that are accepted will eventually have to be submitted in
Microsoft Word for Windows or WordPerfect 5.1 or 6.0 format.

NON-CONFERENCE ACTIVITIES:
 
        Tours of Mexican maquiladora sites and a variety of local
attractions will be available for conference participants and
accompanying guests. Numerous family activities are available in the San
Diego area, including the San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park, Wild Animal Park,
Sea World, San Diego Harbor, Torrey Pines Golf Resort, the Anza-Borrego
Desert, San Diego Symphony Hall, and shopping and tourism visits to
Tijuana, Mexico.
