This provision of the UCC has been interpreted differently by different
states.   In some states "payment in full" on the check (or other
appropriate language) prevents the creditor from subsequently collecting
the balance of the debt if the creditor cashes the check.  In other states it
does not.    How specific the language has to be also varies from state
to state.
