Hello MGTDEV-L,

I represent a retained search firm that specializes in the human resources industry. We have a client with an outstanding opportunity for a creative OD professional interested in challenging turn around business situations and rapid career growth.

Many of you may know of an exceptional person who is appropriate for our client's requirements. Should you know of anyone who would be appropriate, please share this information with them or let me know their name. Below is a description of the opportunity.

THE COMPANY: A major technology-based manufacturing company headquartered in Ohio. The company has 10,000 employees worldwide, all working toward a common vision: to become one of the most respected diversified companies in the world.

The company has focused on businesses where they have common core competencies and initiated definite growth strategies for its units and development plans for re-energizing its talented work force.

Our client, the Decorative Products Division has approximately 2700 employees and is the most aggressive growth business of the company’s five basic business units. Decorative Products is a leading supplier in markets that require special expertise in design, styling and printing technologies as well as calendering processes. The division has demonstrated superior skills in these areas, so the business is positioned to expand its product lines and enter new, but related markets.

Decorative Products is growing aggressively in three ways: international acquisitions and sales, domestic acquisitions and sales, and growth by building new products with existing equipment.

LOCATION: Columbus, Mississippi is located in northeast Mississippi on the Tombigbee River, 10 miles west of the Alabama State line, about 15 miles from Tuscaloosa, AL and 179 miles northeast of New Orleans, LA.
The County of Columbus has a population of 62,000.

POSITION: Human Resource Manager responsible for all the generalist activity within a manufacturing facility with approximately 670 union employees. Responsibilities include organizational development and training, employment and staffing, proactive labor relations, compensation and benefits administration, community relations, EEO/diversity plus safety and security. Will team with the Industrial Relations Manager to develop the appropriate labor relations programs for the new culture and form the key relationships to take on full responsibility for the plant.

The Manager will have two primary sets of responsibilities. 1) Lead the design and develop a High Performance Work Place by redesigning processes to remove non-valued time at the Columbus Plant. This would create the need to re-design and develop compensation programs, training programs, career development, organizational structures, and much more. 2) The manager will take the lead role driving Time Based Management across the division. This includes strategy development, process, communication programs, training, etc.

Supervises a staff of external consultants and a HR team. The position reports to the Plant Manager and has a strong dotted line to the Division Director of Human Resources. This position is highly visible and interacts with some of the top management in the corporation.

REQUIREMENTS: Our client prefers a professional with 5 to 7 years experience and an advanced degree in business or organizational development. Candidates should be human resource generalist with a working knowledge of organizational development principles including assessment, team and organizational design. The position requires understanding of manufacturing environments, compensation administration and design and some labor relations.

Personal characteristics: The candidate should be aggressive but flexible she/he should be so passionate about their work that it energizes others. Clearly not afraid to take calculated risks or express their point of view. Is a champion for change. Customers focused -- although human resources is a staff position, this person should be very clear about what is critical to the customer and uunderstand where they are deficient in meeting customer expectations.

COMPENSATION: Commensurate with experience. A competitive salary, full company benefits and relocation package.

OPPORTUNITIES: Opportunities for growth are outstanding. The next step is Division Director of Human Resources. This division plans to double in size and has several major acquisitions in progress. Additionally, new positions will be created as the company grows.

Sincerely,

Joseph A. Dickerson
