ALSB Members,

The Westin Hotel is full...at least for our block...I believe that there may be some outrageously priced rooms available ($260+ per night); but, the hotel is reluctant to increase our room block for $105 per night when they can get $260+ per night.

I am trying to get more rooms, but there simply may not be any available. I am also trying to line up a second hotel in the area with a small block of rooms.

If you are having problems, please let me know so that I can work on it with specific names in mind.If someone has come up with a good alternative, let me know as well. You may want to respond to me personally at [log in to unmask] rather than on ALSBTALK.

I should point out that setting up a roomblock is part science, part history, and part crapshoot. If our block is too big and we don't fill 80-90%, we're hit with a big penalty; if the block is too small, we're hit with rightfully-upset ALSB members. With the conference not starting until Wednesday afternoon and with flights from the east arriving in San Diego all Wednesday morning, we thought that we needed a smaller room block for Tuesday night. The block for the remaining nights were based on previous conferences in the west as well as our most recent numbers for the past few years. For those of you with long memories, I hope that this isn't Portland, Maine revisited (three hotels..)!!!!
