What is Wrong, If Everyone is Right?
In a society which is beginning to embrace the
notion of acceptance and equality among all races, genders, and sexual
preferences, Americans are also developing an acceptance of beliefs and
practices which are solidly in opposition to their own. But where should
the line be drawn between endorsement and disapproval?
Author Bob Hostetler has co-written a book
called "The New Tolerance," which claims that this 90's mindset of absolute
acceptance is encroaching on the values of Christianity. And he's calling
for a return to the old tolerance - where everyone has a right to their own
notions of right and wrong, but you don't have to agree with them.
Also joining us is Dr. Ronald Scott, an
associate professor of Mass Communication at Miami University and
coordinator of the McBride Hall program, which attempts to foster a sense
of acceptance and diversity among freshmen students at the university.
