Hello everyone

The other day, I found the following sentence
when reading a university entrance examination:

The temperature was warm.

Is it good? I think "the temperature is high" is better.

Another question.
Is there any error in the following sentence?

Many people were infected with the disease, but not one of us
had a medical background.

Thanks in advance.
