** Reply to note from Assembly for the Teaching of English Grammar <[log in to unmask]> Tue, 22 May 2001 14:49:19 -0800 I'm perplexed: 1. "Despite the weather, we're going fishing!" This sounds ok to me. 2. I committed a mortal sin and looked in Webster's Second. It identifies 'despite' as a preposition, and gives the following example: "Despite his prejudices." I have the awful feeling I'm missing something -- but what's a friendly list-serve for? __________________________ David E.
