Alasdair Anderson's book, "The Dean Tavern: A Gothenburg Experiment" (Newtongrange: Dean Tavern Trust, 1986), contains a quite detailed history of another Scottish Gothenburg pub, the Dean Tavern in Newtongrange. My forthcoming book, Pubs and Progressives: Reinventing the Public House in England, 1896-1960, devotes a chapter to the Gothenburg movement in England. There were two national organizations promoting the experimental approach to running pubs: the People's Refreshment House Association, founded in 1896, and the Central Public House Trust Association, established in 1901. The Prestoungrange Gothenburg ( locally called "The Goth") dates from 1908. It was built in a former coal mining area of Scotland, East Lothian, not far from Edinburgh. The Goth has links with Goteborg, Sweden, where the Gothenburg Scheme began. You can read about this on the website and in a pdf history downloadable from the site. There are "Goths" also at Newtongrange and Armadale.
