Kodak back in Sept 2004 closed their Melbourne Australia manufacturing
plant due to decreased demand for film. That said, film (negative and
transparency) will still be around for quite sometime. The demand is there
just not as high as in the past.

the market is now in producing printers, paper and cartridges so that folks
can print out their digital images.

Film IMHO will always be around. shoot there are folks who still produce
dags and ambros for gosh sakes.

What we may see is manufacturing by smaller concerns.
