Due to an increasing demand for archival consultants the Massachusetts Archives and the Massachusetts Historical Records Advisory Board are seeking to expand its database of archival consultants names and contact information. This database (list) of names will be made available to anyone looking for archival consultation. The database is not limited to Massachusetts; consultants from neighboring states are encouraged to send their information. This is a good opportunity for those archivists who are looking for full-time project work, as well as others who would like to share their skills on a very limited, short-term basis. The need is there. We have had many requests for this information from municipal governments, historical societies and museums, and public libraries, to name a few. In particular, the Documentary Heritage grant program, sponsored by the Secretary of the Commonwealth, William Francis Galvin, and with a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission, is presently reviewing potential fundable projects. The MHRAB anticipates to award between 20-25 grants, with projects commencing in mid-summer 2005. If you are interested please contact Bill Milhomme at [log in to unmask] or (617) 727-2816 X257.
