DigiCULT: Technology Watch Report 3 - Now Available "Core Technologies for the Cultural and Scientific Heritage Sector", January 2005 As in previous TWRs, this volume examines six core technologies. Those covered here underlie a wide range of future applications, and include: Open Source Software, Natural Language Processing, Information Retrieval technologies, Location Based Systems (especially GIS and GPS), Visualisation of Data, and Telepresence, Haptics and Robotics. This report builds on our earlier two reports: TWR1 (2003) examined Customer Relationship Management Systems, Digital Asset Management Systems, Virtual Reality, Human Computer Interface technologies, Smart Tags and Labels, and Games.
