FYI: From the Library Journal Academic Newswire (TM) AARP, LCCR DONATE CIVIL RIGHTS ARCHIVE TO LIBRARY OF CONGRESS The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) and the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights (LCCR) have donated an archive of more that 4,000 firsthand accounts of the struggle for civil rights to the Library of Congress (LC). The collection contains an array of firsthand written accounts, audio and video interviews, and photographs. It marks a milestone in the development of the Voices of Civil Rights, a collaboration of AARP, LCCR, and LC. Librarian of Congress James Billington said the collection would both complement the LC's extensive collections of civil rights materials and also add to its growing collection of oral histories. The stories were contributed by people of all backgrounds, gathered during the Voices of Civil Rights Bus Tour, a 70-day, 12,000 mile journey across America last summer. LC will continue to gather personal accounts and expand the collection. An online archive of personal stories, essays, interviews, videos and photographs is accessible at http://www.voicesofcivilrights.org/ .
