The Library of Congress's Prints and Photographs Division is pleased to announce additions to its Prints and Photographs Online Catalog (PPOC) <http://www.loc.gov/rr/print/catalog.html> that span the centuries and the hemispheres, including:

- The George Grantham Bain Collection (thousands of additional images now online): The photographic files of one of America's earliest news picture agencies, this collection richly documents sports events, celebrities, theater, crime, strikes, disasters, and political activities, primarily ca.1900 to the mid-1920s. Catalog records and high resolution digital images have recently been added for 11,000 glass negatives, joining the 1,200 photographic prints already represented online. More negatives will go online in the coming months. For more information, see: http://lcweb2.loc.gov/pp/ggbainhtml/ggbainabt.html

- American Revolution Prints and Drawings: Online catalog records have been created for more than 700 prints and drawings relating to the American Revolution. Most of the items were featured in The American Revolution in Drawings and Prints; a Checklist of 1765-1790 Graphics in the Library of Congress, compiled by Donald H. Cresswell. Washington, 1975. (Scroll down the division's "What's New" page: <http://www.loc.gov/rr/print/whatsnew.html>to the collection announcement, and select the link labeled "Retrieve these records" to launch a search in PPOC for these items.)

- Middle East Photographs: More than 900 photographic prints have been digitized and cataloged in nine groups (LOTs). Dating from ca. 1860 to 1940, they show sites, buildings, and people in Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Syria, Tunisia, and Turkey. About a third of the photographs were taken by Maison Bonfils, and other prominent photographers are represented, including Francis Frith, Abdullah frères, and Lehnert & Landrock.
(Scroll down the division's "What's New" page <http://www.loc.gov/rr/print/whatsnew.html> to the collection announcement, and select the link to "Retrieve the group records" to launch a PPOC search for records that contain links to individual images.)

The Library of Congress's Prints and Photographs Online Catalog (PPOC) contains catalog records and digital images representing a rich cross-section of still pictures held by the Prints & Photographs Division and other units of the Library of Congress.

   * The catalog provides access through group or item records to about 65 percent of the Division's holdings.

    * About 90 percent of the records are accompanied by one or more digital images. In some collections, only thumbnail images display to those searching outside the Library of Congress because of potential rights considerations.

For information on other new collections and recent and upcoming activities in the Prints and Photographs Division, see the division's "What's New" page: <http://www.loc.gov/rr/print/whatsnew.html>
