Back around 1994 or 1995, I bought Sony's CD-ROM version of Nixon chief
of staff H. R. "Bob" Haldeman's published diary (_The Haldeman
Diaries_). Haldeman released much more of his diary on the Sony CD
than in shorter 698-page Putnam hard copy version of the diary. (An
aside -- I actually already was familiar with the contents of the
diary, having worked with the original in the early 1980s while
employed at the National Archives. NARA released portions of the
original diaries after Bob published his copies in 1994.) Sony's
CD-Rom uses Quicktime 1.1.1.

I have two computers at home, a desk top computer with Windows 98 SE
which I purchased around 1997 and a notebook with Windows XP which I
purchased in 2005. (It replaced a Windows ME notebook I bought for my
late sister when she was diagnosed with cancer in 2001.) I have
continued to use the Haldeman CD-ROM for research on the (Windows 98)
desktop computer. However, when I recently tried to use the Sony CD on
my newer computer (which has a later version of Quicktime) I got the
same error messages described by the user below.

In looking at the website of the Miller Center for Public Affairs
(UVA), I see this note:

"Haldeman, H. R. The Haldeman Diaries: Inside the Nixon White House.
New York: G.P. Putnam's, 1994.

An important primary source for the Nixon years. This book contains
selective entries. A far more complete CD-Rom version also exists;
however, it is becoming increasingly inaccessible due to changes in
technology."

I see that many university libraries list the Haldeman CD-ROM in their
library catalogs. I'm curious as to whether any of you know whether
they have had trouble providing research access to the CD through
successive computer upgrades since 1994.
