I am a Family Historian with the Madison County, Indiana Historical Society and am chair of the Genealogy Committee.

Years ago while working in the History and Genealogy Department of the Anderson Public Library the head of the department developed a "ME" chart that we used in teaching kids how to do their genealogy. It was a wonderful experience for all of us and to especially know thar some of those "kids" who are grown are still doing genealogy.

So, I decided to have this as a project of the "Historicl Society". We redevloped the "ME" chart which includes a 3 generation chart for them to fill out giving information on each child, their parents and grandparents. On the back of the chart is a questionaire for them to fill out giving information suck as the names of the schools they have attended, former addresses, favorite subject, clubs and organizations they belong to, music, etc.

Our first class begins April 5, 2006. We know it will be a challenge with all the mixed families of every kind in today's world, but will tell them who ever they consider mom and dad that's who they put on the chart. As we are starting with 4th and 5th graders we plan to expand to middle school next year and then high schoolers the following year. We plan to include home schoolers, private schools as well.
